Zambia celebrated her 57th year of Independence from her British colonial rulers on 24th October 2021. The whole country was gripped with activities to mark this day and Rusangu University was no exception.
The celebrations at Rusangu University main campus in Monze were spearheaded by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) leadership and kicked off on the Independence Eve leading towards the countdown. The SRC Entertainment department had lined up performances by students, singing, poetry and cultural dances. There was also the lighting of fireworks to mark the dawning of the day. During this event, the SRC gave out confectionaries, drinks and water to all students who attended the occasion.
On Independence Day, the SRC Sports department held several sporting activities which included football, netball and basketball, among others. The students were elated during lunch and dinner when the SRC gave out K5 worth of meal coupon subsidies to each student.
The theme for the 2021 Independence Day celebrations was “celebrating the new dawn anchored on good governance, national unity and development.” The theme reminded citizens to espouse unity and togetherness in the pursuit of sustainable national development.
