PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA ATTENDS THE 18TH GRADUATION CEREMONY

On the bright morning of September 15, 2024, Rusangu University in Monze was full of anticipation. The campus was adorned with colorful banners and flowers, celebrating the 18th Graduation Ceremony. This year was particularly special as the Republican President, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, graced the event as the Guest of Honor.

The ceremony began with a procession of 697 graduates, their faces beaming with pride and joy. Families and friends filled the seats, their cheers and applause echoing across the grounds. The ZNS Brass Band set the tone with beautiful renditions including the national anthem, followed by an inspiring invocation.

President Hichilema took the stage to a standing ovation. In his keynote address, he emphasized the importance of education in driving national development and urged the graduates to use their skills and knowledge to contribute positively to society. He highlighted the need for universities to align their curriculums with industry demands and global trends. His words resonated deeply with the audience, instilling the new graduates a sense of purpose and responsibility. The President also undertook to assist in the development projects of the University after his family donated a building which he commissioned on the same day. He also promised to upgrade the gravel road to a bituminous standard, a long standing request from the University and surrounding community.

The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Dorababu Tadepalli, also addressed the gathering, expressing his pride in the achievements of the students and the university’s commitment to excellence. He announced several new initiatives to enhance research and innovation, reflecting the institution’s forward-thinking vision in view of the effects of climate change.

As the graduates received their diplomas and degrees, there were moments of laughter, tears, and heartfelt hugs. The ceremony concluded with a grand recessional, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another for the graduates.

The day was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students, faculty, and staff of Rusangu University. It was a celebration of achievement, hope, and the promise of a brighter future for Zambia and other countries represented among the graduates.
